SOMI Logo depicts its philosophy and vision. The logo shows that the mother and her child are a symbiotic whole. They are guarded by the strong, skilled and sensitive hands of the midwife. The logo was designed during the Launch Workshop of SOMI in April 2000 in Delhi. It was further developed with inputs from technical staff at UNICEF and senior of SOMI from different parts of the Country.
SOMI (Society of midwives, India) is a membership based national level professional organization of registered midwives. After prolonged national awareness among nurses, it was registered with the Registrar of Societies Hyderabad on 22nd November 2000 bearing the No. 9701 / 2000 under the Andhra Pradesh (Telangana area) Public Societies Registration act, 1350, Fasli (Act of 1350).

The SOMI Lamp for Safe Motherhood (Midwives’lamp for Mothers) was conceptualized as a traditional lamp with the SOMI LOGO standing on it. The logo symbolized the close link between the terms motherhood and midwifery. Women need midwives, and midwives are themselves women.
